Chinese Junks

When I was a child in San Diego, Chinese Junks (boats) used to dock in out harbor, and sell things made in China from the ships.  If they unloaded them there were rules and regulations and I supose taxes.  But if we went on board we could legally purchase what we wanted.  I remember Mom bought a couple of painted vases which would be worth a lot of money now.  We picked out a gold covered bell with a person dressed like a coolie striking a bell.  The stryker was hung on the side so we could tap the gong to make the ringing sound.  We gave this to our grandmother.  Dad bought me a small budha insense burneralso gold in color but not gold.  It was fun to go on this foreign wooden boat which wasn’t like our ships.
